Briar Cliff Avenges Loss To Bellevue

The Charger men’s basketball team did not have to wait long to avenge its first loss of the season. BC played Bellevue for the second time in eight days Saturday at the Bruins’ home classic and came away with a 64-56 win.

The first half of action was a defensive grind for both sides. Bellevue led the low-scoring period with a 29-26 halftime score. The Chargers came ready to play in the second half, tying the game at 33-all and never looking back, leading by as many as 12 en route to the eight-point win.

Quinten Vasa and Quinn Vesey led the Chargers with 15 points apiece. Jaden Kleinhesselink scored all 12 of his points in the second 20 minutes after being held to 0-for-7 shooting in the first half. He did lead the rebounding for the Cliff, corralling 12 boards. Ethan Freidel was held to eight points in the game but gave out a team-high four assists.

Jemeil King was the only player in double digits for Bellevue with 10 points.

The Cliff shot just under 33 percent from the field in the contest and went 9-for-30 from the 3-point line. Bellevue hit 32 percent of its attempts and made just four of its 30 tries from deep.

Briar Cliff moves to 2-1 on the season and looks ahead to another road trip this week. The team will take on Presentation Wednesday evening in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
