Sioux Center, Iowa — Dayton Brunsting, a senior at Boyden-Hull High School, has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender track and cross country programs.
“Dayton is a great addition to our program. He is coming off an excellent senior cross country season where he showed consistent improvement through the season and outstanding potential as a runner. He is an all around athlete and will bring great work ethic and a competitive mindset into his college running. Additionally, he is a great fit for the Dordt community and will have an impact across campus as a whole. I look forward to working with him the next four years,” said Dordt cross country coach Nate Wolf.
Brunsting has a personal best of 16:46 on a 5,000 meter cross country course and recorded bests of 2:04 in the 800 meters and 4:47 in the 1600 meters two years ago when track was last run in Iowa. He helped Boyden Hull Rock Valley qualify for the 4×800 meter relay and was a three-time all-conference performer in cross country. A multi-sport athlete, Brunsting was on two state championship runner-up teams and a state title winning group. He was also selected as an all-conference performer in basketball.
“I chose Dordt because of the great atmosphere they give off. Everyone from professors to coaches all showed how they wanted me to succeed and how they wanted to help me succeed. The also showed me how prevalent Christ is in all they do. Knowing they were going to help my grow physically, mentally and spiritually made the decision to go to Dordt a lot easier,” said Brunsting.
Dayton is the son of Tim and Cheri Brunsting of Hull, Iowa. He plans to study Actuarial Science at Dordt.
