Byker Headed To Dordt

Dordt_Defenders logoOrange City, Iowa — Klay Byker, a senior at Unity Christian High School (Iowa), has announced his intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender basketball program.

Byker, a 6-5 forward, averaged 11.4 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game while earning second-team all-conference honors. Byker was a member of the Unity varsity program the last three years and appeared in all 67 games the Knights played during that span.

A multi-sport athlete, Byker was a part of two Unity cross country teams that placed third at the Iowa High School State Cross Country Meet in 2013 and 2014. He finished 31st in the 2013 race. He also was a part of a conference champion 4 x 800 meter relay team in 2014. Byker earned all-conference honors twice and once earned all-district honors all in cross country.

“We are glad to add Klay to our basketball program. Klay had a strong senior season at Unity Christian under head coach Cliff Warner where he consistently scored and rebounded the basketball,” said Dordt College coach Ross Douma. “He possesses a tireless work ethic which will serve him well as he transitions to the college game. Klay is very familiar with our program and has a strong understanding of the value of a Dordt College education. We look forward to watching Klay develop in many facets during his time on our campus.”

Klay is the son of Mike and Maria Byker of Orange City, Iowa. He plans to study Education at Dordt College.
