Hull, Iowa — Western Christian has announced that Klay Byker will be the new Varsity Girls basketball coach for the Wolfpack.
Byker said, “I am so excited to be the next girls’ basketball coach at Western Christian! Western is a special place where we have a unique opportunity to do athletics in a missional way. There is a great history of success within the program, and I cannot wait to continue to build upon a district culture that contributes to the overall faith and character development of our young women. I am extremely appreciative of Brian Verwolf and Travis Kooima for their tremendous support. To the players, let’s get to work!”
Byker grew up in Orange City and attended Unity Christian High School (’15), and later attended Dordt University where he graduated with my undergraduate degree in 2019. Byker went on to receive his M.Ed from Dordt University in 2021.
Byker takes over after Justin Negen resigned his coaching position in mid-March. Negen served as head coach for the past 6 seasons, and led the Wolfpack to a state championship in 2016-2017.
