Byker Signs With Dordt Volleyball

Sioux Center, Iowa — Emma Byker, a senior at Unity Christian High School, has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the volleyball program.

“Emma is an athlete that has continued to expand her abilities and impact in the setting role. She is eager to learn new aspects about being a setter and she has led some really strong offenses in her high school career. We are grateful for the investment that her high school coaches Patty Timmermans and Lindsey Van Schepen have put into Emma’s development. Emma is a wonderful fit for our Dordt campus and community and she will be a great ambassador to live out The Defender Way,” said former Dordt volleyball coach Chad Hanson.

Byker is a 5-11 setter who helped the Knights to three straight Class 3A State Tournament berths in 2019, 2020 and 2021. She totaled over 2,100 assists during her career with 525 digs, was in on 110 blocks, 145 kills and 107 ace serves. She was twice named first-team Class 3A West All-District, first-team all-War Eagle Conference, second-team all-Northwest Iowa Review and third-team All-Northwest Iowa by the Sioux City Journal. Byker also competes in basketball where she helped Unity to a Class 3A state title in 2020 and was on a state qualifying 4×400 relay team in track and field.

“I chose Dordt because it is a place with great programs that will help me grow spiritually, academically and athletically,” said Byker.

Emma is the daughter of Maria and Mike Byker of Orange City, Iowa and she plans to study education.
