Orange City, Iowa — Ernesto Cardenas (Sioux Center, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to continue his wrestling career at Northwestern College.
Cardenas finished his four-year career at Sioux Center High School with 73 wins, 54 pins and 133 takedowns. Cardenas posted a 30-8 record and earned all-conference honors for the second time last winter. He qualified for districts two years and projects to compete at the 165-pound weight class at Northwestern.
“Ernesto is a welcome addition to our team,” said Northwestern Head Coach Rik Dahl. “He is an athletic young man with high potential. We look forward to seeing Ernesto progress as a wrestler and as a young man at Northwestern.”
Cardenas plans to study Exercise Science at Northwestern and is the son of Alejandro and Alejandra.
“I chose Northwestern because of the people I met when I visited,” said Cardenas. “The coaches, wrestlers and Northwestern staff made me feel welcome; I feel that Northwestern will help me achieve the goals I have set, both as a wrestler and as a student.”
