Central Lyon Boys On to District Semifinals

Rock Rapids, Iowa — Central Lyon downed Sheldon 70-50 on the Lions home floor to open the 2A District 3 tournament Monday night. The Lions used 12 treys and the inside game as well to advance. Sheldon hit 9 3-pointers as the two teams combined to hit 21 shots from behind the arc.

A three at the buzzer by Mason Gerleman tied the score at 12-12 at the end of the first 8 minutes. At the half a fade away from close range by Cooper Spiess at the buzzer turned a four point lead into a six point lead at halftime 28-22. At the end of three the Lions struck again as Zach Lutmer beat the buzzer at the top of the arc for a three that put Central Lyon in control 54-37 at the end of the quarter. From there the offense continued to fire on all cylinders as the Lions picked up the win 70-50.

Central Lyon put four players in double figures. Zach Lutmer had a game high 20 with 18 coming in the second half. Jace Schrick hit for 15, all from behind the arc. Mason Gerleman hit 4 treys as part of his 14 point night and Cooper Spiess added 14 more all from inside.

Sheldon had two players in double figures as senior Kaleb Ackerman scored a team high 19 with 4 of Sheldon’s 3-pointers. Fellow senior Ty Sudbeck knocked down a trio of 3’s as part of his 13 in his final game in the Orange and Black.

With the win Central Lyon is 16-6 and will move on to the District semis Thursday against  Western Christian in Hull. The Orabs end the year at 9-14.
