Central Lyon Upsets Boyden Hull for 1A District 2 Title

central lyonSioux Center — Central Lyon hit the free throws they had to have late in the fourth quarter and it added up to a 58-53 upset win over third ranked Boyden Hull. The Lions C J Roths went 5-of-7 in the fourth quarter and Brady Metzger went 2-of-2 in the fourth quarter as well. A pair of Roths free throws gave the Lions the lead for good with less than a minute to go. As a team Central Lyon went 10-of-16 as a team in the fourth quarter.

Boyden Hull came from behind to take a 17-13 first quarter lead and had pulled in front 29-20 at halftime. Roths knocked down a trio of threes in the third quarter as Central Lyon got back into the game and eventually tied it at 42 with time running down. Boyden Hull’s Dalton Moser hit a three as the quarter wound down to put the Comets up 45-42 heading into the fourth quarter.

The two teams battled back and forth in the final eight minutes with  Central Lyon going up 52-50 on a pair of C J Roths free throws with less than a minute to play and they never trailed after that going on to win 58-53.

Cade Knobloch scored a game high 19 to lead the Lions. Roths hit for 14 and Riley Van Wyhe added a dozen. Boyden Hull had two players in double figures with Marcus Rens hitting four three-pointers for a dozen points and Jacob Schafer adding 11 off the bench.

With the win Central Lyon improves to 17-7 on the year while Boyden Hull ends the year at 20-4 having split a pair of games with the Lions in the regular season. Up next for Central Lyon will be the Substate game with South O’Brien Saturday night in LeMars. The Wolverines claimed the District 1 title with a 58-33 win over Siouxland Christian at the Sioux City West Gym Thursday night.
