Class 1A State Baseball Begins Monday Morning In Carroll

The State high school baseball tournament begins Monday morning in Carroll with the quarterfinal round in class 1A.

In the opener, 10th ranked Kingsley-Pierson will try to slow down the running game of sixth rated North Linn. The Lynx have swiped 219 bases in posting a 21-2 record.

That’s Kingsley-Pierson coach Taylor Doeschot who says it starts with limiting baserunners.

Doeschot hopes experience is a plus for the Panthers.

Top ranked Remsen St. Mary’s takes a 33-0 record into a 1A quarterfinal against South Winneshiek. Remsen St. Mary’s coach Dean Harpenau says the Hawks know they will have a challenge against a South Winn team beat Lansing Kee in a sub state final.

Harpenau says South Winneshiek features outstanding pitching.

Harpenau says the Hawks need to string quality at-bats together.
