COVID-19 Affects Northwest Iowa High School Softball Team

Northwest Iowa — COVID – 19 has affected a northwest Iowa high school softball team.

Quoting from a joint press release from the Superintendents at George Little Rock and Central Lyon School released on Friday June 12th,  “The George-Little Rock Community Schools and the Central Lyon Community Schools are notifying their respective communities that multiple softball players have had direct contact with an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19.”

The George-Little Rock Community Schools and the Central Lyon Community Schools have been in consultation with Lyon County Public Health regarding the situation.

The players with direct contact with the confirmed individual will be self-quarantined for fourteen days (14).The earliest these players could return to practice and competition is June 25, 2020.

If any player becomes symptomatic, they must be symptom free for forty-eight (48) hours prior to returning to practice and competition.

The coaches and the remaining players are considered third degree contacts. These players have not been directly exposed to the positive case. In these cases, the players and coaches can carry on while monitoring themselves for symptoms.

Any player that does not feel comfortable participating with the softball team should contact the coaches.

At this time the GLR-CL softball team is still planning on playing the varsity schedule.

The statement was a joint release of Patrick O’Donnell and Brent Jorth. They are the Superintendents of the G-LR and Central Lyon School Districts.

The Mustangs are scheduled to open the season Monday night in Sheldon and we’ll bring you the broadcast on KIWA AM 1550 and 100.7 FM. Pregame is scheduled for 6:50 with first pitch at 7:00 as we begin our summer sports coverage.
