De Jager, Hilger Claim GPAC And NAIA Honors

Sioux City, Iowa – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following Volleyball players-of-the-week for contests played September 17-23, 2018. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2018-2019 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.

Attacker – Lauryn Hilger, Northwestern College (Outside Hitter)

Northwestern’s Lauryn Hilger is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Attacker-of-the-Week. Hilger, a senior, from Omaha, Nebraska, helped lead 15th-ranked Northwestern to a perfect 3-0 record last week. She averaged 5.7 kills per set and hit .512 in wins over Mount Marty, Dakota Wesleyan and Concordia. Hilger hit for double figures in all three matches and averaged 3.1 digs for the week. She had 21 kills in the Red Raiders 3-0 win over Dakota Wesleyan, totaling 20+ kills for the fourth time this season.

Setter- Jamie De Jager, Dordt College

Jamie De Jager of Dordt College is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Setter-of-the-Week. De Jager, a senior from Sioux Center, Iowa, guided Defenders to three wins last week, including a 3-0 sweep of seventh-ranked Midland. She finished with week with a total of 101 assists, averaging 11.22 assists per set. In addition, she had nine kills, four blocks, and four ace serves for the 10th-ranked Defenders.

Lauryn Hilger of Northwestern was also named the NAIA National Women’s Volleyball Attacker of the Week and Jamie De Jager of Dordt was named the NAIA National Volleyball Setter of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday.
