Defender Men Take Third Straight Conference Decision

Sioux Center, Iowa — The Dordt Defender men’s basketball team used a strong defensive effort in the second half to secure a 75-57 win over the Hastings Broncos on Friday night, January 7 in Sioux Center, Iowa.

The Defenders trailed 24-16 with 10:33 left in the first half and a Camden Bialas three-point play started a 13-0 run that Jackson Louscher capped with a basket at the 6:41 mark. The teams played back and forth basketball the rest of the half with Hastings getting a 37-36 lead at the break on a Dashawn Walker bucket right before the buzzer.

Dordt quickly extended the lead to 47-39 to start the second half with Hastings managing to cut the gap to 47-44 on a Karson Gansebom three-point shot. Dordt again had an answer and took a 56-46 lead with 12:01 left in the game with Bryce Coppock knocking down a three-point shot and the Defenders were never seriously challenged the rest of the game.

Dordt was 30-65 from the field and 10-27 on three-point shoots while getting to the free throw line for 5-8 success.

Hastings was 24-71 from the field and 8-20 from the arc but made just 27 percent of its field goals in the second half.

Dordt had a 46-41 rebounding edge.

Coppock led Dordt with 22 points on 5-9 three-point shots and he had five rebounds and three assists.

Jackson Louscher had 15 points and four rebounds with Cade Bleeker adding 14 with eight rebounds.

Luke Rankin handed out six assists and Camden Bialas had seven points and 12 rebounds.

Dordt is now 5-3 in the GPAC and 13-4 overall while Hastings is 1-7 in the league and 6-12 overall.

Dordt will host Jamestown on Saturday, January 8.
