The Dordt Defender volleyball team stayed perfect with their fifth win in as many tries with a 3-1 win over Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday night in Mitchell, South Dakota.
The Defenders pulled away from a 6-6 ties with seven of the next eight points to take control of the set. The Defenders got kills from Jessi De Jager, Corrina Timmermans and Brenna Krommendyk in the stretch and had no trouble in finishing the set with a 25-13 win.
Set two started with Dordt getting up 4-3 but the Tigers scored five points in a row to lead 8-4. Dordt eventually rallied and took an 18-17 lead on a Krommendyk kill but the Tigers again had an answer with a four point run to lead 21-18. The Defenders got as close as 23-22 but a pair of Tiger points evened the match at one set each with a 25-22 win.
A refocused Defender group raced to a 5-1 lead on two Karsyn Winterfeld kills and two by Jori Bronner and Dordt was never challenged in taking the 25-12 win. Set four featured seven ties with the final deadlock at 10-10 but a five point run put Dordt up 19-12 and the Defenders held on for a 25-19 win.
Dordt will host Jamestown in league play on Friday night.
