Den Herder To Run For Dordt

Sioux Center, Iowa — Ayda Den Herder, a senior at Sioux Center High School (Iowa), has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender track and field program.

“We are very excited to add Ayda to the track and field team next year! Ayda is a gifted athlete and she will contribute significantly in Long jump and sprints. Her ability and her focus has allowed her to perform at a high level with only a couple of years of experience in track and field. Ayda exemplifies the Defender Way, and will represent Dordt University very well,” said Dordt track and field coach Craig Heynen.

Den Herder is a sprinter and long jumper and has a personal best of 16-11 in the long jump and she has been on a 4×100 team that ran 51.4 and a 4×200 team that ran 1:46.34. Her 4×200 team placed sixth at the state meet.

“There’s a sense of community at Dordt that’s hard to come across on other campuses. I appreciated the coaches and professors on my visits and I felt they truly cared for the students. The track and engineering programs really stood out to me compared to other colleges,” said Den Herder.

Ayda is the daughter of Matthew and Barbara Den Herder and she plans to study engineering at Dordt.
