DeSmet Signs With NWC Football

Jordan DeSmet of Larchwood has signed a letter of intent to continue his football career at Northwestern College next fall.

DeSmet is a 6’2″, 250-pound offensive / defensive lineman who completed a standout, three-year career for the West Lyon High School football team. DeSmet earned first team all-state honors by both the Des Moines Register and the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association (IPSWA) after leading his team to the 1A state championship and 12-1 record. He was part of an offensive line that blocked for one of the top offenses in the state, accounting for 5,090 total yards, 73 touchdowns and averaged over eight years per play. DeSmet was named the District Lineman of the Year and earned first team all-district honors two years. He was selected to the all-Sioux City Journal team and earned second team all-state accolades as a junior.

“Jordan is a talented football player,” commented Northwestern Head Coach Matt McCarty. “He is strong, physical and possesses good size. Jordan has been coached well and completed a decorated high school career by leading his team to a state title. We are thrilled to have Jordan join our Red Raider football team.”

DeSmet earned academic all-state honors and is a member of both the honor roll and national honor society. He plans to study sports management at Northwestern and is the son of Jim and Sara.
