DeSmet Signs With NWC Football

Zach DeSmet of Larchwood, Iowa has signed a letter of intent to continue his football career at Northwestern College next year.

DeSmet is a 6’3″, 235-pound defensive lineman/tight end who had a standout three-year career for West Lyon High School. DeSmet earned third team all-state honors after totaling 39 tackles, 11 for a loss, and four quarterback sacks last fall. He also accounted for five catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns on offense. DeSmet was named all-district for the second straight year and helped lead the Wildcats to an 11-1 record and state semifinal berth. A member of the National Honor Society, DeSmet plans to major in Biology at Northwestern. He is the son of Steve and Sandi.

“Zach is a tough, physical football player who will provide an immediate presence along our defensive line,” commented Northwestern head coach Matt McCarty. “He has been coached very well and had a great high school career at West Lyon. We are thrilled to have Zach join the Red Raider football team and are excited to see the impact he will make both on our team and on our campus.”
