Dordt Baseball Drop Doubleheader To Midland

Fremont, Nebraska — The Midland Warriors came back from an 8-3 deficit to defeat Dordt in an eight-inning contest, 9-8 on Friday afternoon.

The Defenders captured the momentum early, using a three-run inning in their half of the 1st. Luke November singled down the right field line to bring home Nolan Christianson, who stole a base earlier in the inning. Dylan Stanley followed up with a two-out home run, his first hit to leave the yard this season, to give Dordt a 3-0 lead.

Midland matched Dordt’s scoring output in the bottom of the 1st, scoring on an error, a sacrifice fly, and an RBI single.

In the top of the 3rd with runners on first and second, Stanley helped the Defenders regain the lead, hitting a triple to deep right center that allowed November and Christianson to cross the plate. In the next at-bat, Anthony Rodriguez-Klinzing hit a single up the middle that allowed Stanley to score for Dordt’s third run of the inning.

The Defenders kept their foot on the pedal in the 4th, as Luke November hit a double with runners on the corners, bringing Dordt’s lead to 8-3.

The Warriors began their rally with a triple to begin the bottom of the 4th, allowing one run to score. They followed by scoring in the next at-bat and adding a two-out RBI single.

After Midland tied the game at 8-8 in the 5th inning, neither team was able to score again until the 8th, when Midland’s Chase Reynolds hit a leadoff single and later came around to score on an RBI single from Connor Petersen, which proved to be the walk-off winner.

The Dordt Defender baseball team lost a 4-2 decision in game two of its doubleheader on Friday night in Fremont, Nebraska.

Midland got two in the third and another two in the fifth to lead 4-0. Dordt rallied with two runs on a pair of solo homers by Parker Hamann and Logan Cline in the sixth inning. Dordt continued to threaten in the seventh inning, getting the first two batters of the inning on with back to back walks. The Defenders had a runner thrown out at third on a double steal attempt but a single by Anthony Klinzing put runners at the corners with one out. A pair of strikeouts ended the threat and the game with Midland hanging on for the sweep.

Dordt was outhit 7-3 and committed two errors but neither of the errors figured into any runs.

Nick Yeager was the starter and went three innings and was charged with two runs and struck out one.

Three other Dordt pitchers, Mike Bruell, Dylan Brown and Kevin Fokkema all went one inning and had a strikeout each.

Cline’s homerun was the third of the season and the senior is currently batting .460.

Hamann’s homerun was his first of the season.

Dordt will face Midland in a doubleheader in Sioux Center, Iowa on Saturday, March 19 starting at 2:00.
