Atchison, Kansas — The Dordt Defenders fell to Bethany (Kansas) in Dordt’s season opener played at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. The Defenders lost a 10-4 decision after having the lead down to 6-3 entering the sixth innings.
Bethany scored five in the second inning but Dordt got three in the home half of the same frame. Dordt’s threat started with a two out walk to Cam Pfafman and Austin Pullar ran for him and stole second. A walk to Andrew Pullar set the table for John Emerson who singled in Austin Pullar. Aaron Eshelman followed with a ground ball to the second baseman that was misplayed and the errant throw to first allowed Pullar and Emerson to score.
Bethany scored one in the third and four more in the sixth and Dordt managed to get one back when Luis Camacho scored on a Emerson single but Dordt got no more in falling 10-4.
Bethany (Kansas) swept Dordt in non-conference baseball played at Atchison, Kansas on Thursday in games hosted by Benedictine.
Dordt got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first inning with Chase Edwards reaching on a two-out walk. Luis Camacho followed with a single and Nick Hamilton’s single scored Edwards.
Bethany followed with a pair of runs in the third but Dordt tied it in the home half of the inning when Logan Cline scored on an error with. Cline initially reached on a single to lead off the inning.
Bethany went up 7-2 with a five run fourth inning and Dordt’s one run response made the final 7-3 after the game was ruled official after the fifth and daylight fading. Austin Pullar scored Dordt’s last run on a Logan Cline single.
Luis Camacho and Logan Cline each had two singles and Nick Hamilton and Andrew Pullar had a single each.
Luke Turner pitched three and a third innings and was charged with four earned runs, five hits, three walks and four strikeouts.
Logan Horne came on in relief and had two hits allowed with three runs scored—one of them earned.
Dordt is 0-2 and will face Benedictine on Friday in a doubleheader scheduled to start at noon.
