Seward, Nebraska — The Dordt baseball team dropped two conference games to Concordia Saturday afternoon, and the Bulldogs defeated the Defenders 8-3 in the first game of the day.
Concordia got on the board first with a sacrifice fly to take an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st.
The Defenders pulled ahead in the 3rd when Austin Pullar hit a 2-run home run that scored Brock Spade, who previously hit a leadoff single. Dordt then scored again later in the inning as Chase Edwards singled to right with two runners on base, giving Dordt a 3-1 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, Concordia earned back a run in a three-hit inning to make the score 3-2.
The Bulldogs put together a six-run inning in the bottom of the 6th that included a 3-run home run from Teyt Johnson. Following a pair of RBI singles and an RBI double, Concordia took an 8-3 lead with one inning remaining.
Brock Spade opened the top of the 7th with a single, and Parker Hamann stole second on a pinch running appearance, but Concordia’s Nick Little struck out the next three batters in a complete game victory against the Defenders.
Austin Pullar led the team in RBI with 2, Chase Edwards went 2-3 at the plate, and Brock Spade had 2 hits for the Defenders.
Dordt and Concordia met for the fourth time this weekend in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader. The Bulldogs won game two by a score of 14-4 in 7 innings.
With the score 2-0 in favor of Concordia in the top of the 4th inning, Chase Edwards hit a home run to deep right field, also scoring Logan Cline to make the score 2-2.
In the bottom half of the inning with two runners in scoring position, Concordia earned an infield single that scored both runners. Later on, the Bulldogs loaded the bases and all runners scored on a series of errors, ending the 4th inning at 8-2.
John Emerson opened the 5th by drawing a leadoff walk, and later came around to score on a fielding error. Austin Pullar also scored on a wild pitch, and the score was 9-4 going into the bottom of the 6th.
The Bulldogs hit two home runs on their next series, propelling them to a conference win.
Dordt will face the Morningside Mustangs in a home doubleheader on Friday, April 2 at 1:00 and 3:00 pm
