Sioux Center, Iowa — The Doane Tigers got the sweep over the Dordt Defenders Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center.
The Dordt baseball team played in their home opener Saturday afternoon vs. the Doane Tigers in a Great Plains Athletic Conference matchup.
Following a scoreless 1st inning, Doane opened the top of the 2nd by getting a runner on base and bringing in a run on Nate Mensik’s sacrifice fly to center field.
The Defenders opened their half of the 2nd with a home run by Nick Hamilton, his third of the season. Dordt had two more runners on base in the inning as Cam Pfafman reached on a walk and John Emerson hit a single to center. However, Doane’s Jordan Wisner struck out the next three batters to finish the inning.
The Tigers regained the lead by scoring four runs in the 3rd inning, with 2-run home runs from both Lukas White and Joe Osborn, giving Doane a 5-1 lead.
Doane continued to add to their lead later on in the game, hitting a leadoff home run in the 5th and adding two runs in the 7th.

Dordt and Doane took the field for game two of the doubleheader, and the Tigers won in a high-scoring contest that saw both teams score in double-digits.
Following the first out of the game, Doane had the bases loaded to set the tone for a three-run top of the 1st. The Tigers left three runners on base and took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the inning. In Dordt’s half of the inning, Chase Edwards hit a single deep to center field, and Logan Cline came around from first to score and tie the game.
The Defenders took the lead in the 2nd inning, as Connor Hommes hit a home run and gave Dordt a 2-1 lead.
Following an efficient inning on the mound by Isaac Vander Hart, Dordt added another five runs in the bottom of the 3rd. John Emerson and Logan Cline doubled on back-to-back plate appearances and Cam Pfafman hit a three-run home run that scored Nick Hamilton and Connor Hommes, giving the Defenders a 7-1 lead.
Doane then answered with 8 runs of their own on a six-hit inning, which included a home run for Jack Tillman.
Down 16-10 going into the 9th inning, Dordt attempted to bring themselves close through a series of base hits. The Defenders opened the inning with three hits in a row by Logan Cline, Chase Edwards, and Nick Hamilton. With the bases loaded, Cam Pfafman recorded an RBI, and Lucas Nelson later hit a ground ball that turned into two runs for Dordt. The Defenders’ rally attempt came short, however, and Doane picked up the conference win, 16-13.
