Sioux Center, Iowa — The Jamestown Jimmies scored a pair of runs in the second and fifth innings and kept the Dordt Defenders off balance in game one of their doubleheader and secured a 2-0 win.
Jamestown scored first on an error in the second inning with two outs on a fly ball to left field that plated a runner from second. A homerun in the fifth inning by Quade Peters provided the insurance run the Jimmies needed.
Dordt’ s best scoring opportunity came in the fifth inning when Dordt had runners at first and third and one out but the runner was thrown out trying to return to third on a bunted ball. Dordt also threatened in the seventh with runners at first and second and no one out but a base running miscue resulted in an out on a rundown and the final two outs of the inning were recorded by strikeout.
Dordt had a 4-3 hits advantage.
Gyeongju Kim took the loss while allowing two runs, one earned and struck out 11 with two bases on balls.
Dylan Stanley had two singles while Luke November and Logan Cline accounted for Dordt’s other two hits.
Jamestown used a late-game scoring outburst to separate themselves from the Defenders and come away with the doubleheader sweep on Saturday, defeating Dordt 6-1 in game two.
Dordt got on the board early on as Logan Cline drew a leadoff walk, following up with a stolen base that set up Chase Edwards for the sacrifice fly that brought Cline in from third.
That run proved to be the only run scored in the game for the Defenders, as Jamestown then tied the game in their half of the 2nd when Taylor Cullen’s leadoff single turned into the first Jamestown run due to a double and a defensive error.
The Jimmies took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd as Cullen grounded an RBI single over second base to make the score 2-1.
Dordt had the bases loaded in the top of the 6th when Nolan Christianson hit a leadoff single followed by a double from Logan Cline that sent two runners into scoring position. After an intentional walk, Jamestown’s Payson Mills worked out of trouble to record the final two outs.
Jamestown broke the game open in the 7th and 8th, methodically moving runners across to score a combined four runs on four hits.
Today’s games sent Jamestown into sixth place in the GPAC while Dordt moved into a tie for 8th.

The Defenders will play Concordia in a four-game weekend series beginning Friday, April 22 at 4:00 PM. All games will take place at Open Space Park Stadium.
