Dordt Baseball Drops Two To Mount Marty

Yankton, South Dakota — Dordt faced off with Mount Marty in the third game of the weekend between the two teams, as the Defenders begin the final stretch of the regular season.

The Defenders got on the board first in the top of the 2nd, as Lucas Nelson led off the inning with a double to right field. With one out, Aaron Eshelman picked up the RBI, as he put the ball in play and Nelson scored from third.

Mount Marty tied the game in the bottom half of the inning when Jet Weber hit a single with the bases loaded.

In the 3rd inning, Dordt had three hits, with the first coming from Logan Cline’s double. Nick Hamilton then hit a single to center field, allowing Cline to score.

After the Lancers gained another run back in the bottom of the 3rd, they took a 3-2 lead on Josh Roemen’s RBI single.

Dordt tied the game in the top of the 4th as Chase Edwards hit a leadoff home run, his 5th of the season.

Mount Marty then took a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the 5th, which they would hold through the remainder of the game. Colin Muth hit a 2-run home run with two outs in the inning to break the 3-3 tie.

Mount Marty opened the scoring for the second game of today’s doubleheader with a home run by Josh Roemen to take a 1-0 lead after the 1st inning.

In Dordt’s half of the 3rd inning, Chase Edwards hit a 2-RBI single, and a wild pitch on the next at bat brought Logan Cline in from third. With Edwards on second, Lucas Nelson doubled to give the Defenders a 4-1 lead.

The Lancers did not trail for long, as the bottom of the 3rd saw four runs cross the plate, allowing Mount Marty to retake the lead at 5-4. They then added another four runs in the bottom of the 4th inning, which included home runs by Cole Anderson and Josh Roemen.

Dordt trimmed the Mount Marty lead back down to three in the top of the 5th, as Chase Edwards hit a single that scored Logan Cline, and Anthony Klinzing had an RBI double.

Another RBI single for Chase Edwards came in the top of the 6th, making the score 9-7, but the Lancers hit their fourth home run of the day during their half of the inning, leading to a 10-7 score that would hold final.

The Defenders will host a doubleheader with Midland on Friday, April 30 at 4:00 pm in the final weekend of the regular season.
