Dordt Baseball Opens Florida Trip Saturday

Sioux Center, Iowa — The Dordt Defenders will play in Florida beginning on March 6 and running through March 12.

Saturday Dordt faces Trinity Baptist in a doubleheader beginning at noon. Monday, March 8 the Defenders will face Saginaw Valley (Michigan) and Webber (Florida) at 2:00 pm and 5:30 pm.

Trinity Baptist is 1-6 this season and have a win over Point Park on February 26 to its credit.

Noah Harter leads the team with a .500 batting average and has ten hits. EJ Alvarez is batting .353 with six hits and he and Harter each have three runs scored. Ryan Heller has pitched eight innings with a 5.63 earned run average and has four strikeouts. Will Van Sick has pitched seven innings and has ten strikeouts.

Saginaw Valley State opened its season on March 2 and will face Trinity Baptist on Friday, March 5 and Southeastern on March 6. At the time this preview was written the Cardinals had a 16-4 win over Cleary to their credit. The win over Cleary was tight through five innings but he Cardinals scored 15 runs from the sixth inning on to secure the win after trailing 4-1. Hunter Merillat was the winner in relief and Austin Koin had a grand slam while Thomas Lofthus and Connor McClennen each had two hits and Colin Cornwell had three runs scored and McClennen four.

Webber is 14-7 this season and have played nine games in league play already and have a 7-2 record. The Sun Conference member has won five games in a row and nine of its last 10. Norberto Navarro is batting .351 with two doubles, two triples and 27 hits with six stolen bases and 22 runs scored. Rougie Odor has a team high 29 hits with a .345 batting average and Luis Acevedo has a .333 batting average and ten runs batted in. Angel Diaz has a team high four homeruns and four doubles with a .300 batting average. Rey Rodriguez is 1-1 in eight appearances and 18 innings pitched with 0.96 earned run average and has 22 strikeouts. Bryce McDonald has 36 strikeouts In 33 innings and is 2-0 and Thomas Lopez has a 3.09 earned run average with 11 innings pitched and Drake Kasparek and Austin Dreher each have three wins. Kasparek has 34 strikeouts in 21 innings.

Dordt is 3-5 this season after going 3-1 last weekend in Kansas. The Defenders scored 58 runs in the four games and have a team .312 batting average. Logan Cline is batting .500 with 13 hits and four homeruns and 15 runs batted in. Nick Hamilton has 12 hits and two homeruns while Austin Pullar and Luis Camacho each have eight hits and John Emerson has seven.

Gyeongju Kim has pitched nine innings and has 13 strikeouts and is 1-1 this season. Nick Yeager and Diego Benitez are both 1-1 this season and Benitez has eight strikeouts in seven innings.

Dordt has a doubleheader with Warner Southern scheduled for March 9 and will face Southeastern in a single, nine inning contest on March 10.
