Dordt Baseball Scheduled For Four In Kansas

Atchison, Kansas — The Defender baseball team is scheduled to play a pair of doubleheaders on Thursday and Friday, February 4 and 5 in Atchison, Kansas.

The Defenders begin doubleheader action at 12:00 pm both days with Bethany (Kansas) the opponent on Thursday and the host, Benedictine, the rival on Friday.

Bethany was 16-10 in 2020 and 7-1 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play before the season stopped on March 10.

Braden Scrivner is Bethany’s top returning hitter and had a .357 batting average last season with 30 hits and five homeruns with 26 runs batted in and he clubbed seven doubles. Chase Lorg had 23 hits last season and is back with a .324 batting average and he had five homeruns.

Benedictine was 16-13 last season and 5-6 in the Heart of America Conference before the season was halted and eventually canceled.

Michael Slaten returns after batting .442 last season with 10 homeruns and 37 runs batted in and he had 12 doubles. Danny Favazza batted .344 last season and had 17 runs batted in with 10 doubles and Jackson Doherty and Jacob Pavlyak return after posting .325 and .308 batting averages respectively. Both had 17 runs batted in with five and six doubles respectively.

The Defenders were 4-14 last season and 1-3 in the GPAC through mid-March 2020.

Logan Cline batted .469 last season with 23 hits and five doubles with three tiples and a homerun. Andrew Pullar is back after batting .333 with 15 hits and Lucas Nelson also batted .333 in 12 games played. Cam Pfafman and Tyce Marquez both had 13 hits and Luis Camacho had two of Dordt’s six homeruns last year.

Willem Hoekstra returns after pitching 22 innings and he struck out 14 batters while Isaac Vander Hart pitched 20 innings with 16 strikeouts. Logan Horne and Kevin Fokkema had 13 and 10 innings pitched respectively and Fokkema had 11 strikeouts.

Dordt will resume play on February 19 and 20 when the Defenders travel to McPherson, Kansas to face Central Christian and McPherson.
