McPherson, Kansas — The Dordt Defender baseball team split a doubleheader with Central Christian Friday afternoon. Dordt won the first game 13-12 but fell in the second game 17-10
The Dordt Defenders scored six runs in the fourth inning to take a 9-8 lead and then held on for a 13-12 win in game one of their doubleheader with Central Christian in McPherson, Kansas on Friday afternoon.
Chase Edwards and Nick Hamilton each had singles for the Defenders to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning but the hosts answered with two runs on a hit in the bottom of the inning.
The Defenders scored an unearned run in the second but gave up four in the second and another two in the third. Dordt came alive in the fourth inning with six runs in the fourth with Logan Cline clubbing a homerun and Luis Camacho had a two run shot to give Dordt the lead.
The Defenders added two more in the fifth and another in the sixth to lead 12-8.
The lead wasn’t safe though as Central Christian scored four runs on a combination of two hits, a walk and a hit batsman. With the score tied Dordt loaded the bases while benefitting from a single, a couple wild pitches and two walks. Chase Edwards lifted a fly ball to left that scored Aaron Eshelman from first for the eventual winning run.
Central Christian did make it interesting in the bottom of the seventh when they loaded the bases but Nick Yeager struck out the final two batters he faced to preserve the win.
Dordt had a 12-9 hits advantage and both teams had two errors.
Logan Cline had six runs batted in with a homerun and a single.
Austin Pullar had three hits and scored three runs with two doubles and a homerun.
Nick Hamilton had a single and a double and two bases on balls and Aaron Eshelman scored three runs.
Yeager got the win while recoding the final four outs and struck out three and walked one with one hit allowed.
The Dordt Defender baseball team lost a 17-10 decision in game two of the doubleheader with Central Christian on Friday afternoon in McPherson, Kansas. A nine run third inning proved to be too much for the Defenders to overcome.
Dordt led 3-2 entering the home half of the third when Central Christian banged out nine runs on six hits and took advantage of one error to lead 11-2.
Dordt got three back in the next inning with Luis Camacho homering to start the frame but Central Christian answered with two in the fourth inning.
Logan Cline’s second homerun of the game and third of the day got the Defenders within 16-9 in the sixth inning and the teams exchanged runs in their final at-bats to make the final 17-10.
Dordt was outhit 13-7 but Central Christian committed four errors. Dordt was hampered by 13 walks.
Luke Turner started the game and took the loss after working two and a third innings and was charged with three runs.
Logan Cline was 3-4 at the plate with three runs batted in on two homeruns and a single and he stole a base.
Aaron Eshelman had a double for Dordt and knocked in two and Luis Camacho had a homerun and two bases on balls. Eshelman was also walked twice.
Dordt is 1-5 and will play Central Christian and Avila (Kansas) on Saturday in McPherson.
