Dordt Drops A Pair At Morningside

Dordt lost to Morningside 10-1 in game one of a GPAC doubleheader, The Mustangs took the second game on a 17-4 final.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender baseball team was on the short end of a 10-1 decision with Morningside on Friday afternoon, April 15 in a game played in Sioux City, Iowa.

Morningside scored four runs on four hits in the second inning and did all their damage with two outs in the inning.

Dordt answered with a run in the fourth inning when Logan Cline singled and advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt and scored when Luke November knocked him in with a single.

The score remained 5-1 until the sixth inning when the hosts scored five runs on five hits and Dordt was retired in order in the seventh to end the game 10-1.

THE NUMBERS
Dordt was outhit 10-3.

Cline, November and Anthony Klinzing all had singles for the Defenders.

Diego Benitez was the Dordt starting pitcher and went five innings and allowed six runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.

Game Two: Morningside def. Dordt 17-4

HOW IT HAPPENED

An 11 run second inning was too much for the Dordt Defender baseball team to overcome in GPAC baseball against Morningside on Friday afternoon in Sioux City. Dordt ended up losing 17-4 and fell to 7-9 in league play with a pair of losses to the Mustangs.

Dordt got on the board with Logan Cline scoring on an Anthony Klinzing fielder’s choice. Cline had reached initially with a walk and Luke November’s single got him in scoring position.

Morningside answered with a pair of runs in the home half of the first and then added the 11 run second with seven hits and four bases on balls issued in the frame. Dordt got two back in the third when Cline doubled and scored on a Brock Spade double and Nolan Christianson scored later in the inning on a passed ball.

Morningside tacked on four more in the fourth and Dordt’s final run came in the seventh when Anthony Klinzing walked with the bases loaded to force in Logan Cline.  Cline doubled with two outs to get the inning going but Dordt left the bases loaded in the seventh as the game came to an end.

THE NUMBERS

Dordt was outhit 13-4 with Logan Cline getting a pair of doubles to lift his season total to 16.  Cline has already bettered his season record of 13 set in 2021.

Luke November had a single and Brock Spade a double.

Dordt used five pitchers with Cade Hollingsworth striking out two and allowing one hit in two innings of work.

Dordt is 12-22 overall and 8-10 in the league while Morningside is 22-12 and 9-9 in the conference.

Dordt is scheduled to face Jamestown starting at 1:00 on Saturday.
