Dordt College head football coach Joel Penner has announced the first ten recruits for fall 2018.
The group includes six offensive lineman and athletes from six different states. The recruits will join a program that posted a 5-5 record last season and posted three wins in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Joining the Defender program will be Kellan Anderson, Walter Black, Josh Elmore, Austin Gallagher, Garrett Giesick, Shane Mathis, Dylan Moeller, Bryce Simnacher, Mitchel Van Regenmorter and Lucas Warner.
Van Regenmorter is a senior at MOC Floyd Valley High School. He was an offensive and defensive lineman for the Dutch and earned first team all-district honors while helping to pave the way for a team that ran for 1,760 yards and averaged 4.8 yards per rushing attempt. On defense he had 12 tackles with 1.5 sacks and two tackles for loss. He was picked as his team’s most valuable lineman and was a three-year letter winner. Van Regenmorter is listed 6-1, 250 pounds.
“The objective of our recruiting efforts this year is two-fold, find players who will thrive in this environment and find world-class teammates for our current players. I couldn’t be more pleased with the first round of signees. We set a goal of signing 10 players before Christmas and we are well on our way towards a dynamic class. Building our roster this year requires us to focus heavily on defensive difference makers, offensive line, and offensive players that make things happen with the ball in their hands. We are also thrilled to be breaking into new markets – Mitchel Van Regenmorter from MOC-Floyd Valley and Lucas Warner from Pella High are tremendous players and even better young men,” said Dordt College football coach Joel Penner.
