Dordt Men Host Dakota Wesleyan

The Dordt Defender men’s basketball team will host Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday, November 18 at 7:00 pm.

Dakota Wesleyan enters play with a 2-1 record and are 1-0 in GPAC play. The Tigers started the season with a 66-63 loss to Valley City State and bounced back with a 71-48 win over Presentation. Wesleyan opened GPAC play last weekend at home against Briar Cliff and won a low scoring contest 65-53.

The Tigers are outscoring teams 66.3-55.7 and convert 44 percent of their field goals while limiting opponents to 36.3 percent field goal shooting. The Tigers are getting outrebounded by a slight 34.3-34.0 margin.

The Defender men are 5-0 after beating Kansas Wesleyan (83-80), Bellevue (87-76), Viterbo (77-67), Presentation (98-59) and Midland (83-72).

Dordt converts 52.0 percent of its field goals while outscoring teams 85.6-70.8 and the Defenders try 10 more free throws per game than opponents. Dordt has outrebounded teams 37.6-34.8 and limit opponents to 42.4 percent field goal shooting and 32.2 percent three-point shooting.

Jacob Vis scores 16.2 points per game while getting 6.8 rebounds per game. He is converting 66 percent of his field goals and has six blocked shots. Jesse Jansma scores 14.2 points per game and has 10 three-point baskets so far this season and Garrett Franken has a 14.0 points per game average with a team high 7.6 rebounds per contest. Franken and Jansma are both averaging over three assists per game. Cade Bleeker and Bryce Coppock score 10.6 and 8.6 points per game and Camden Bialas is at 6.2 points per game. Dejay Fykstra has lifted his scoring average to 6.0 and Ben Gesink scores 5.6 points per game with 2.4 assists per outing.

Dordt will travel to Concordia on Saturday, November 21 and will host Briar Cliff on Tuesday, November 24.
