The Dordt Defender men’s basketball team scored a 15 point win over Midland in GPAC play Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center. The Defenders made it a season sweep of the Warriors with a 78-63 win in a return to play after the Christmas break.
Dordt found itself down 26-18 with 6:13 left in the first half. After a Dordt timeout the Defenders went on an 8-0 run ignited by a Garrett Franken basket and capped by a pair of Camden Bialas free throws. After Midland retook the lead with a basket the Defenders answered with a 4-0 run to lead 30-27 and took that three-point lead into the intermission at 33-30.
Dordt never relinquished the lead in the second half but was holding on to a 52-48 advantage after Emaunel Bryson worked into the paint for a basket with 6:41 left in the game. Jesse Jansma answered with a three-point shot that started a run that put Dordt up 60-50 after a Cade Bleeker three-point basket and the Defenders finished the game on a 12-2 run over the final 2:56 to win by 15.
Dordt improves to 7-4 in the league and 11-4 overall while Midland slides to 1-9 and 3-10.
Dordt will travel to Dakota State for a 7:00 pm game on Monday, January 4 in Madison, South Dakota.
