Sioux Center, Iowa — The Dordt Defenders battled from behind most of the game but couldn’t get over the top in losing to the Jamestown Jimmies on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Defenders battled to an 11-1 tie with five minutes gone in the game but allowed five unanswered that gave the visitors some breathing room.
Dordt got the gap down to 22-20 on a three point play by Jacob Vis with 9:06 left in the half and it was 30-25 after a Jackson Louscher basket with 4:55 remaining. A 10- run over the next three minutes put Jamestown up 15 points before Bryce Coppock made a three-point shot to stop the run. The Defenders went into halftime down 42-31.
It was still a 10 point difference with 17:35 left in the game with Dordt trailing 52-42. Jacob Vis started a Dordt comeback with a basket and Coppock followed with a layup and Louscher had a bucket to keep the pressure on. Luke Rankin’s layup with 15:30 left got Dordt to within 52-50 and the teams traded baskets up to a 56-54 difference. Dordt never had a shot to tie or take the lead in the sequence.
Dordt got to within two one more time at 74-72 with a Vis basket with 3:29 left in the game. Jamestown scored on the next possession and scored the final eight points of the game to win the ten-point margin.
Dordt was 28-60 from the field and 7-18 from the arc while converting 9-15 free throws.
Jamestown was 31-60 and 6-14 from the arc while converting 14-15 free throws.
The Jimmies had a 38-29 rebounding edge.
Dordt was paced by Bryce Coppock’s 27 and he had three assists.
Jacob Vis scored 23 with 11 rebounds and scored 17 in the second half.
Jamestown got 22 points each from Will Cordes and Mason Walters.
Dordt is now 5-4 in the league and 13-5 overall. Jamestown is 16-3 overall and 6-3 in the conference.
Dordt will travel to face Doane on Wednesday night, January 12 and will host Briar Cliff next Saturday.
