The Dordt Defender men’s basketball team secured an 86-69 win over Briar Cliff in GPAC play on Tuesday night in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The Defenders scored the first seven points of the game but Briar Cliff answered with seven in a row to tie the game 7-7 with 15:30 left in the first half. The teams swapped baskets and a Conner Groves three-point basket put Briar Cliff up 12-11. Another three-point shot got it to 15-11 for the Chargers.
Dordt rallied with 11 points in a row capped by a Jacob Vis basket with 7:09 left in the half for a 22-15 lead. The Defenders maintained at least a three-point lead the rest of the half and led 35-28 at halftime.
A Cade Bleeker three-point shot started the second half and he followed with a two-point shot for a double digit lead and Briar Cliff was never closer than 11 the rest of the game. Bleeker and Jansma ended up scoring 14 points each in the second half as the Defenders outscored the visitors 51-41 in the second half and converted 62 percent of their field goals.
Dordt is 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the league while Briar Cliff is 3-4 and 1-2.
Dordt will travel to Morningside on Wednesday night, December 2.
