Dordt Soccer Facility Improvements Announced

Sioux Center, Iowa — The Dordt University Athletic Department has announced fundraising efforts to enhance the soccer game facility and the construction of the indoor multi-purpose turf facility.

The women’s and men’s soccer programs have set a goal to raise $500,000 before August 1, 2021, and there is a matching gift currently in play that will match every dollar given to the goal until August 1. Funds will go directly to the installation of lights at the current facility, as well as the development of the American State Bank Sports Complex facility. Fundraising efforts for both facilities are underway.

“With this matching gift I believe wholeheartedly we can make this goal happen. Defender Nation has proven to be dedicated and passionate and I am certain it will prove that again and help us meet this ambitious goal,” said Dordt Director of Athletics Ross Douma.

Lights at the facility will alleviate missed class time for student athletes and will provide a more impactful game day experience.

“I can only imagine how cool it will be to run out under the lights on a crisp, fall, Wednesday night with more family and friends at the game because we are not playing during the middle of a workday,” said Dordt women’s soccer coach Alex Durbin. “This is something I would have loved as a student-athlete!”

The American State Bank Sports Complex is an indoor turf facility which is slated to be completed in 2022 and will allow for multiple practices and workouts to be administered simultaneously for soccer, football, baseball and softball. Dordt University and the city of Sioux Center are partnering in the construction and management of this facility.

“I believe this state-of-the-art facility will change soccer at Dordt,” said Dordt men’s soccer coach Ryan Gresse. “Our program will be able to practice year-around and the facility will host winter camps, high school leagues and jamborees, youth recreational soccer and future alumni games.”

The Defender Gold Club is seeking the help of Defender Nation to reach the goal of $500,000 by August 1, 2021.
