Dordt Softball Drops Double Header In Yankton

The Mount Marty Lancers ended Dordt’s six game winning streak with a 3-1 win in game one of their doubleheader in Yankton, South Dakota. Game two went to the Lancers 7-6.

Dordt’s run came in the fourth inning when Riley Titus reached on an error with the bases loaded and Chandler Schemper scored. Mount Marty had taken a 2-0 lead with two runs in the second inning and a homerun by Emma Burns in the fifth accounted for Mount Marty’s insurance run in the fifth inning. Dordt had stranded two runners in the top of the fifth but were retired in order in the sixth and a double play negated a leadoff single in the seventh as Dordt’s threats were limited.

THE NUMBERS

Dordt was outhit 6-3 and was unable to take advantage of three Mount Marty errors.

Abby Kraemer pitched six inning and was charged with three earned runs with nine strikeouts and she walked three.

Dordt did not have an extra base hit with Schemper, Jessica Flaherty and Jessica Oules accounting for Dordt’s three singles.

Game Two:

Mount Marty made it a sweep of the Dordt Defenders on Tuesday night in Yankton, South Dakota with a 7-6 win in game two of their doubleheader.

Dordt got a run in the first inning when Brooklyn Van Oort singled in Karli Olsen but the Lancers had an immediate response with two runs in the bottom of the first frame. The hosts added two runs in the third for a 4-1 lead before Dordt could mount a threat.

Ella Koster doubled in Ivy Terpstra in the fourth inning and scored on the same play as the ball got past the leftfielder. Dordt then took a brief lead in the fifth inning on and error with the bases loaded and Hailey Wilkin knocked in two runs with a single later in the inning.  Mount Marty pulled even with a two run homerun in the bottom of the fifth and won it on an Elliot Burns homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning.

THE NUMBERS

Ivy Terpstra and Ella Koster each had doubles for Dordt as the Defenders were outhit 8-6.

Kenzie Cunard, Brooklyn Van Oort, Hailey Wilkin and Karli Olsen all had singles for the Defenders.

Hailey Wilkin got the pitching start for Dordt and went five innings and allowed six runs on five hits with two strikeouts. Kayla Zevenbergen came on in relief and was charged with a run on three hits.

Dordt is now 18-11-1 overall and 8-4 in the league. Mount Marty is 23-9 overall and 11-3 in the GPAC.
