Dordt Softball Drops Two To Midland

Midland scored one run in each of the first three innings and rode that to a 3-0 win in the first championship game of the Midland Bracket on Saturday, May 5.

Midland, riding the momentum of a come from behind win over Mount Marty in an elimination game, scored a run with two outs in the bottom of the first and then added a run in the second inning on two hits. Dordt sidestepped trouble at the time by forcing two stranded runners.

The Warriors added another run in the third to take the 3-0 lead that stood up the rest of the way.

Dordt’s opportunities were limited as the Defenders got runners as far as second base in the third and sixth innings.

Rachel Evavold took the loss with seven hits allowed in the first five innings and she walked two with three strikeouts.

Midland eliminated Dordt from post-season play with a 3-1 win over the Defenders on Saturday in the ‘if needed’ game of the Midland Bracket.

Midland scored two in the fourth and another in the sixth to lead 3-0.

Dordt battled back and loaded the bases with one out. Corinne May delivered a single that scored one run and kept the bases loaded.

Midland’s Jaylee Hinrichs struck out the next two batters to finish off her second complete game in a row and her third pitching win of the day.

Tianna Top took the loss on the mound with three runs allowed, three strikeouts and ten hits given up.

Dordt finishes the season with a 24-22 record.
