Dordt Softball Drops Two On Wednesday

Kissimmee, Florida – The Dordt softball team dropped both games on Wednesday in Kissimmee, Florida. The Defenders fell to Florida National 1-0, and dropped their second game to Keiser 10-4.

In game one, Florida National made a fourth inning run stand up for a 1-0 win over Dordt on Wednesday afternoon in Florida.

Dordt’s Abby Kraemer struck out six and walked five in the complete game pitching effort and allowed the one unearned run.

Dordt had a 3-2 hits advantage but got no free passes and had just three base runners.

Hannah Sikkema and Rachel Evavold each had singles and Jessica Flaherty had a double.

Dordt is now 9-9 with four games remaining on its Florida trip.

Against Keiser, Dordt scored first in the 2nd inning, as Taylor Knaack drew a walk with one out. Erin Wieringa doubled to left field, which allowed Knaack to score from first and give the Defenders a 1-0 lead.

Keiser answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning, sending seven batters to the plate to generate a series of hits. Dordt tied the game in the 3rd, using a leadoff single from Brooklyn Van Oort to open the inning. Hannah Sikkema hit a double on the next at-bat, and Erin Bredemus got an RBI as Van Oort crossed home plate on a ball in-play. Sikkema scored on the next at-bat as a fielder’s choice allowed Dordt to tie the game at 3.

Keiser put together a 6-run bottom of the 3rd to make the score 9-3 on three hits and two errors.

With the score 10-3 heading into the final inning, Terpstra and Knaack reached base in the first two at-bats and Terpstra scored on a throwing error. Keiser’s Kelsie Merriman worked out of trouble, though, throwing strikeouts on the final two at-bats to secure a 10-4 win.

Hannah Sikkema went 4-4 at the plate, Erin Wieringa and Brooklyn Van Oort were both 2-4, and Erin Bredemus was 1-4 with 1 RBI

Dordt will play Bellevue at 12:30 pm and St. Thomas at 2:45 Thursday in Kissimmee, Florida.
