Dordt Softball Goes 2-0 In Monday Contests

Kissimmee, Florida — Karli Olsen drove in the game winning run in the bottom of the 6th on the way to a 1-0 win in Kissimmee, Florida.

The story of Monday’s game was found in the pitching matchup, as Abby Kraemer struck out 10 and Bellevue’s Cory Carrillo did not allow a hit until the 6th inning.

The Defenders put up the first run of the game, which was preceded by a one-out single by Jessica Oules, who then advanced on a fielding error. Kenzie Cunard followed, hitting a drive to right field on the first pitch. With runners at the corners, Olsen hit the ball through to right center, allowing Oules to score and helping Dordt take the lead.

Kraemer struck out two of the final three batters to end the game, 1-0.

The Dordt Defender softball team was a 9-1 winner over Judson (Illinois) on Monday afternoon, March 7 in a game played in Florida. The Defenders made it a sweep of their two games with the five-inning victory.

Dordt got four on the board in the third inning with Karli Olsen starting the scoring with a one-out, solo homerun. After Chandler Schemper reached on an error Brooklyn Van Oort knocked a homerun and Emma Groen followed with a solo shot to end the scoring in the frame.

Groen figured in the scoring in the fourth inning when she singled in Schemper who reached initially with a walk.

The Defenders added four runs on two hits in the fifth inning with Olsen singling in a run and then Schemper was hit by a pitch with the bases full and Van Oort walked with the bases loaded. Groen knocked in one more run with a sacrifice fly for a 9-0 lead.

Judson broke up the shutout with a run in the bottom of the fifth and the game ended by the eight-run difference rule.

Van Oort and Groen both knocked in three runs with Groen accounting for two of Dordt’s nine hits with a single and homerun.

Olsen had two runs batted in with a single and homerun.

Five other Defenders had base hits as Dordt outhit Judson 9-1.

Taylor Knaack earned the pitching win while scattering two hits and five bases on balls.

Dordt will play Judson and Lourdes (Ohio) on Tuesday as their 12-game week continues.
