Dordt Softball Sweeps CSM

Omaha, Nebraska — The Dordt Defenders scored a 10-2 win over the College of Saint Mary in GPAC play in game one of their doubleheader.

Dordt got the scoring started with three runs in the first inning highlighted by a Becky Pedersen double that plated two runs and allowed Dordt to take advantage of an error that had extended the inning.

The Defenders added two more int eh third inning, this time taking advantage of three Flames’ errors and Rachel Evavold’s lead off single in the inning was Dordt’s only hit of the frame.

Dordt added runs in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and eventually ended the game after six by virtue of the eight-run difference rule.

Dordt had just six hits but capitalized on seven College of Saint Mary errors.

Rachel Evavold had two singles and two runs scored and Jessica Oules, Brooklyn Van Oort, Becky Pedersen and Emma Veenstra all base hits and Pedersen’s double was the only extra base hit of the game for Dordt.

Abby Kraemer went the distance on the mound and gave up two runs on three hits with no walks and six strikeouts.

Dordt made it a sweep of the College of Saint Mary Flames in Omaha, Nebraska this afternoon with an 11-6 win in GPAC play.

Dordt broke through with seven runs on six hits in the third inning and never trailed again in securing their eighth win of the conference season.

Dordt added a run in the fifth and then ended tits scoring with a Chandler Schemper double for two more in the seventh and an Emma Veenstra singled that scored one.

The hosts came back with three runs on four hits in the seventh to make the final a respectable 11-6.

Ten different Defenders had one hit each with Kenzie Cunard, Hannah Sikkema and Erin Wieringa all getting doubles.

Rachel Evavold was the winning pitcher and struck out two with nine hits and five earned runs surrendered.

Dordt is now 8-10 in the league and 19-21 overall and will face Briar Cliff on Tuesday in Sioux City before hosting Waldorf in a non-conference game on Wednesday night. Dordt concludes the regular season at home against Concordia on May 1.
