Dordt To Play Two Foes In Orange City

Orange City, Iowa  — The Dordt Defender women’s basketball team will face Marian (Indiana) and Valley City State (North Dakota) on Friday and Saturday, November 12 and 13.

Dordt faces Marian at 2:00 on Friday and Valley City State at noon on Saturday.

The Dordt Defenders are 3-1 this season with a loss to Grand View and non-conference wins over Presentation, Dakota State and Bellevue.

The Defenders are outscoring teams 73-69.5 and outrebound teams 39-34. Dordt has been effective in getting to the free throw line while making 84-107 through four contests and Dordt makes 38 percent of its field goals. Dordt also forces 19.3 turnovers per game while giving the ball up 12.8 times per contest.

Ashtyn Veerbeek is scoring 17.5 points per game with 9.5 rebounds and 3.3 blocks and she is making 50 percent of her field goal attempts. Mya Chmielewski adds 11 points with 3.3 rebounds and Bailey Beckman’s average is 10.5 points per outing. Hayden Heimensen, Karly Gustafson and Janie Schoonhoven average 9.0, 8.3 and 8.0 points per game with Gustafson and Schoonhoven getting 6.0 and 6.8 rebounds per game.

Marian is 2-0 after wins over St. Francis (Illinois) and Cardinal Stritch.

The Knights score 63.5 points per game while allowing 44 points per contest. Marian has a 35.5-25 rebounds per game edge and convert 50.5 percent of its field goals.

Valley City State is 2-1 this season with a loss to Dakota Wesleyan and a win over Mount Marty.

The Vikings outscore teams 69-68.3 and are getting outrebounded 42.3-41 and convert 39.5 percent of their field goals.

Dordt is scheduled to play Morningside in Sioux City on Wednesday, November 17 and will host Concordia on Saturday, November 20.
