Dordt Tops Corban 3-1

Dordt College bounce back from a loss in set one to secure a 2-0 pool play record with a 3-1 win over Corban on Wednesday night at the NAIA National Volleyball Championship in Sioux City, Iowa.

Dordt took a 17-10 lead midway through set one and seemed to have it in hand with a 21-16 advantage before the Warriors staged a comeback scoring six out of seven points to tie the set 22-22. A service error put the Defenders up 23-22 but Corban tied it again at 23-23. Dordt had one serve for the match after an attack error gave it a 24-23 ead but three straight kills by Adriana Aguayo gave the Corban the unlikely win.

The Warriors proceeded to get up 10-7 as Avari Ridgway knocked down four kills in a row. A timeout followed by an Ally Krommendyk kill stopped the run and Dordt eventually tied it at 10 ant took the lead for good at 12-11. The lead grew to 17-14 and Dordt scored six points in a row to win a 25-16 decision on a kill by Julia Lindbergh.

Set three was never close as Dordt rolled to a 10-5 lead before adding runs of five, six and three points on the way to a 25-10 win. Dordt looked destined for another lopsided win in set four but a 13-4 barely held up as Corban got to within 13-11 and 14-12 before back to back points gave the Defenders a four point cushion that was never smaller than three on the way to 25-19 victory.
