The Dordt Defender track and field program had several athletes meet NAIA Qualifying standards on Saturday, November 21.
Grant Brouwer (Sophomore; Sibley, Iowa) qualified in the high jump by clearing the automatic standard of 2.04 meters. Brouwer’s jump was the same height he jumped in 2020 at the NAIA Indoor National Championships when he finished seventh.
The Defender women had four athletes run the 5,000 meters faster than the needed 18:18 to qualify for the national championship. Taylor Anema (Freshman; Ripon, California) ran a 17:58 and Jordan De Groot (Senior; Sioux Center, Iowa) was right behind in 18:00. Jessica Kampman (Sophomore; Abbotsford, British Columbia) and Eden Winslow (Junior; Culver City, California) ran 18:09 and 18:12 respectively.
The women’s 4×400 also hit the automatic standard by racing under the needed time of 4:00. Anmarie Stuit (Junior; Boyden, Iowa), Emma Bakker (Senior; Edmonton, Alberta), Annika Rick (Senior; Bowerville, Minnesota) and Mika Kooistra (Junior; Emo, Ontario) combined for a time of 3:55.95.
Davis Tebben (Junior; Lansing, Michigan) met the provisional standard in the men’s 5,000 meters with a time of 15:13 which was under the needed time of 15:20 for the provisional standard but shy of the 15:06 automatic time.
The men’s 4×400 of Micah Brands (Junior; Chanhassen, Minnesota), Cole Zevenbergen (Freshman; Rock Valley, Iowa), Payton Mauldin (Freshman; George, Iowa) and Matthew Van Eps (Senior; Prinsburg, Minnesota) ran 3:21.05 which was just shy of the automatic standard of 3:21 and well under the 3:22.5 provisional mark.
Dordt’s next competition is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, December 4 and 5 at Concordia. The Defenders will then resume the season on Saturday, January 16 at Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, South Dakota.
