Sioux Center, Iowa – Dordt University Head Track and Field Coach Craig Heynen and Assistant Coach Nate Wolf earned postseason recognition from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Heynen earned a pair of coaching honors as he was named the Jim McMahon – Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Women’s Indoor Coach of the Year as well as the Midwest Region Coach of the Year by the USTFCCCA.
Heynen led the Defenders to their first conference team title at the GPAC Indoor Championships last weekend with 200 points. The Defenders won seven events and totaled 37 all-conference entries at the two-day championship.
Dordt has held down a top-15 ranking all season and heads in to the NAIA Indoor Championshp ranked 12th in the latest NAIA TFRI rating. Heynen oversees a Defenders squad that scored points in 16-of-19 events at the conference championship and totaled double-digit points in eight events.
Wolf garnered Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors by the USTFCCA as the Defenders accounted for 131 of the 200 points at the GPAC Indoor Championship. The Defenders distance crew is ranked among the NAIA’s top five in the 1,000 meters, 3,000 meters, 800 meters and 5,000 meters.
