Sioux City, Iowa — The Dordt Defender volleyball team survived its regular season finale to take a 3-1 match win over Briar Cliff on the road on Tuesday night in Sioux City, Iowa.
Dordt rallied from a 23-19 deficit in set one to win 27-25 with four points in a row changing the complexion of the set. Grace Langemeier started the run with a kill and Jessi Franken and Alli Timmermans teamed up for a block followed by a Franken kill. After a Briar Cliff timeout Franken had another kill to tie the set at 23-23 and Dordt eventually won the set on a service error by Briar Cliff followed by an Briar Cliff attack error.
Dordt had the momentum in set two and rolled to a 25-16 win but the Chargers did the same in set three to force set four with a 25-15 win. In the fourth set the two teams were never separated by more than three points with Dordt taking a 23-21 lead on back to back points on a Grace Langemeier and Danielle Vande Voort block and a Briar Cliff attack error. Briar Cliff rallied to tie it at 23 and it was back and forth for the next six points to a 26-26 tie. A service error put Dordt up 27-26 and Ava Van Soelen finished the set with a kill for the 28-26 win.
Dordt had 50 kills and a .150 kill efficiency.
Jessie Franken had 12 kills and Alli Timmermans 10.
Ava Van Soelen recorded nine kills with Danielle Vande Voort and Corrina Timmermans each getting six.
Megan Raszler put up 20 assists and Campbell Marshall had 18.
Erica Bousema led the Defenders with 23 digs.
Dordt scored six points on blocks while Briar Cliff had eight points on blocks.
The Chargers hit for a .137 kill efficiency.
