Orange City, Iowa — The Dordt Defender volleyball snapped a three match losing streak and defeated previously unbeaten Northwestern in Great Plains Athletic Conference play Monday night, October 5 by a convincing 3-0 count in Orange City.
Dordt was in control much of the contest, taking a 7-4 lead early in set one on a three point run with Karsyn Winterfeld serving. Winterfeld started the run with a kill and then kills by Corrina Timmermans and Jessi De Jager completed the three-point streak.
Dordt never relinquishe the lead in the set but Northwestern did come back to tie the score at 17, 18, 19 and 20. A block by Winterfeld and De Jager put Dordt up 21-20 and a set error by Northwestern gave Dordt a 22-20 lead forcing a timeout. After the timeout Dordt scored the final three points on attack errors by Northwestern to make the final 25-20.
Dordt had a three-point run early in set two to get up 7-4 and gradually pulled away to lead 22-14. Northwesterrallied to within 23-19 but a service error got Dordt to set point and an Alli Timmermans kill gave Dordt a 25-21 win.
Northwestern seized an early lead in set three but Dordt tied it at 7-7 with a Brenna Krommendyk kill and back to back assist errors gave Dordt a 9-7 lead. An Emma Bousema service ace put Dordt up 10-7 and Northwestern would pull back to even at 11-11. Another three-point run put Dordt up for good and Northwestern was never closer than two the rest of the set in losing 25-16.
Dordt is 6-3 overall and 5-3 in the league.
Northwestern is 2-1 in the GPAC and 4-1 overall.
