The Dordt Defender volleyball team lost a 3-1 decision to Morningside in Sioux City on Wednesday night, October 7 in GPAC play.

The Defenders led early in set one, getting up 12-5 but the hosts rallied to eventually take the lead at 19-18 on a Kaelyn Giefer kill. Dordt tied it at 19-19 on a Morningside attack error but the hosts went on a 4-0 run to take control and won 25-22.

Set two had the Defenders up 5-1 but Morningside scored seven of the next eight points to lead 8-6. Kills by Alli Timmermans and Karsyn Winterfeld tied the set but Dordt would never regain the lead and lost 25-20.

The Defenders regained some momentum with a 25-20 win in set two and never trailed in the set, fighting off a pair of rallies that got Morningside to within one twice. The last push made it 19-18 but a Alli Timmermans killed followed by a Dordt block put the visitors up by three and they won 25-20.

The fourth set proved to be the most hotly contested with seven ties early. Dordt managed a slight edge and was up 18-15 but Morningside fought back to tie the set at 19-19. Dordt’s Jori Bronner tied it at 22-22 with a kill but the Mustangs closed with three unanswered points for a 25-22 win and the match victory.
