Dordt Volleyball Sweeps #23 Doane

Crete, Nebraska — Corrina Timmermans put away a team-high 14 kills in leading No.16 Dordt to a 3-0 sweep against No.23 Doane in a key GPAC match played Saturday in Crete, Neb.

The Defenders gained their second consecutive road win against a ranked opponent and improved to 7-6 in the GPAC, 15-7 overall.

Timmermans hit .433 over the three sets and recorded her 18th match with double figure kills. The junior added 15 digs for her seventh double-double of the season.

Tied at five in the first set, Dordt established the first substantial run of the match, scoring the next five points for a 10-5 lead. Doane rallied to tie the set at 14 but consecutive points by the Defenders off a double block by Allison Timmermans and Jessi Franken followed by a kill from Franken gave the visitors the lead for good.

A fast start for the Defenders resulted in an 8-4 lead in set two after a kill from Franken. Dordt extended its advantage to as many as six until a late Doane rally made things tight by the end. Successful attacks by Alli Timmermans and Franken sealed the win and put Dordt up 2-0.

Both teams held the lead early in the final set. A late 4-0 run by Doane put the Tigers in front 24-21 and serving to push the match into a fourth set. Dordt, however, answered with four consecutive points on an ace from Erica Bousema and kills by Franken, Alli Timmermans and Grace Langemeier. Following a Doane sideout that tied the set at 25, Dordt scored the next two points on a block and kill by Franken to win the match.

Dordt hit .233 for the match and totaled 12 blocks compared to a .173 kill efficiency and five blocks by Doane.

Franken joined Timmermans in double figures with 12 kills in 21 attempts. Megan Raszler and Campbell Marshall put up 22 and 18 assists, respectively. Bousema anchored the backrow with 26 digs.

Gabby Menghini led Doane with 18 kills.

Dordt will play at No.14 Northwestern on Wednesday, Oct. 27 in another conference match between ranked teams.
