Dordt Volleyball Sweeps Briar Cliff

Sioux Center, Iowa — The Dordt Defenders swept through Briar Cliff in GPAC action Saturday afternoon at the De Witt Gym to improve their volleyball record to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in GPAC play.

Dordt built its lead to 11-5 on a Karsyn Winterfeld kill and maintained at least a three point lead the rest of the way in winning 25-16. The final point came on Corrina Timmermans’ first ace serve of the match.

The Chargers rallied from an early four point deficit and got within 11-9 but an attack error followed by a pair of ball handling errors on Briar Cliff put the Defenders up by five and the Defenders were in control the rest of the set for a 25-18 win.

Dordt appeared headed to an uneventful sweep when the Chargers scored five unanswered to go from down 11-5 to down 11-10. Out of the timeout Timmermans got a kill. After a Dordt service error Brenna Krommendyk and Jori Bronner recorded back to back kills and led 14-11 and the Defenders were able to maintain at least a three point lead on the way to a 25-20 win.

Dordt will travel to face Dakota Wesleyan at the Corn Palace on Wednesday night in Mitchell, South Dakota.
