The Dordt Defender women’s basketball team won its 11th in a row with a lopsided 77-33 win on the road over Hastings College Saturday afternoon. Dordt took the suspense out of the game early in the second half to move into a tie for second place in GPAC play.
Dordt scored 11 in a row after Hastings opened the game with a basket and the lead was 17-7 at the end of the first quarter. Both teams struggled to find offense in the second quarter with Dordt maintaining a 26-15 lead at the break.
Hayden Heimensen started the second half with a three-point basket and Karly Gustafson followed with a field goal and Bailey Beckman a pair of free throws. Beckman and Gustafson each had field goals to push the lead to 37-15 and the game was never close the rest of the way as Dordt ran away with the 43 point win.
Dordt was 31-58 from the field and 7-20 from the arc while making 8-10 free throws.
Hastings was limited to 14-52 shooting and 4-16 three-point success while making just 2-8 free throws.
Dordt had a 40-30 rebounding advantage.
Bailey Beckman scored 19 points and Karly Gustafson had 16 points with seven rebounds and three assists.
Ashtyn Veerbeek and Janie Schoonhoven each had 12 points with Veerbeek getting seven rebounds and three assists with three blocked shots.
Dordt is 18-6 overall and 11-5 in the league. Hastings is 11-11 and 7-9.
