Dordt Women Dominate College Of Saint Mary

Sioux Center, Iowa — The Defenders hosted College of Saint Mary on Saturday, looking to solidify their spot in the GPAC standings as the 2020-21 regular season nears its end.

Dordt ran out to a 14-5 lead early in the first quarter as Mya Chmielewski made a three to finish their 9-0 run with just over four minutes played. Madelyn Turner brought College of Saint Mary within five with 3:30 to go in the quarter, but the Defenders answered with another 13-5 run to end the quarter and take a 31-18 lead.

Dordt extended their lead throughout the second, using a strong defensive effort to limit the Flames to only eight points in the quarter. Siennah Stamness made a three, followed by a couple of scoring opportunities from Erika Feenstra and Ashtyn Veerbeek to give Dordt a 21-point lead with about three minutes to go in the half. Karly Gustafson earned two free throws and Mari Smitsdorff scored to give the Defenders a 51-26 halftime lead.

Dordt continued to add to their lead throughout the second half, scoring 31 points in the third quarter on the way to a 37-point win. The Defenders had 13 players enter the scoring column in the game, giving Dordt their 12th conference win of the season heading into the final two games on the schedule.

Erika Feenstra scored a season-high 31 points. Karly Gustafson scored 12 points. Faith Van Holland led the team in rebounds with 7.

Dordt is now 13-10 and College of Saint Mary is 2-19

Dordt will travel to face Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday, February 10. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm in Mitchell, SD
