Dordt Women Fall To Morningside

Sioux City, Iowa — The Dordt Defender women’s basketball team was unable to recover from a slow start and lost an 83-64 decision to Morningside on Wednesday night, November 17 in a game played in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Defenders trailed 10-2 at the 8:33 mark and were unable to get closer than ten for much of the first quarter and fell behind 27-13. Morningside expanded the lead to 46-23 at halftime and both teams scored 20 points in the third quarter.

Dordt outscored the hosts 21-17 in the fourth quarter in falling to 5-2 overall with the loss and 0-1 in GPAC play.

Dordt got 17 points from Bailey Beckman.

Karly Gustafson added eight points and six rebounds and Ashtyn Veerbeek had seven points and 10 rebounds.

Mya Chmielewski and Faith Van Holland each had seven points as Dordt saw their four game winning streak stopped.

Dordt converted 24-61 field goals and 8-26 three-point shots and was 8-8 from the free throw line.

Morningside was 29-67 from the field and 10-29 from the arc while converting 15-15 free throws.

Morningside had a 43-32 rebounding edge and forced 14 turnovers while committing 12.

Morningside has won three in a row and is 3-2 overall and 2-0 in league play.
