Irvine, California — Dordt will play Westcliff on Saturday, December 18 at 5:00 pm (Central) at the Jordan Lawley Facility in Irvine, California.
Westcliff is 2-6 this season and is competing for the first time this season in the Cal-Pac Conference. The Warriors have lost six games in a row and lost a 59-49 decision to Bellevue on Thursday, December 16. Westcliff has also played Northwestern and have played several other NAIA schools and have a one-point loss to the College of Idaho and a seven-point loss to CSU San Bernadino.
The Defenders are 7-6 this season and 2-5 in the GPAC and split their two games last week with a win over Northwestern and a loss to Dakota Wesleyan.
Ashtyn Veerbeek leads the Defenders with an 18.1 points per game average with 8.7 rebounds and she is making 48.6 percent of her field goals and averages 3.2 blocked shots per contest. Bailey Beckman adds 11.1 points per game and Karly Gustafson is at 9.6 points per game with 8.0 rebounds. Hayden Heimensen and Janie Schoonhoven score 9.5 and 9.4 points per game with Schoonhoven getting 6.3 rebounds and she is making 61 percent of her field goals. Mya Chmielewski is good for 8.2 points per game and leads the team with 20 steals.
Dordt is outscoring teams 72.5-70.5 and outrebound teams 38.5-37. The Defenders also convert 39.4 percent of its field goals and teams are making 41.3 against Dordt. Bill Harmsen’s team is making the most of the free throw line by making 78 percent and they have made 240 free shots while opponents have tried 211.
